Remote Sensing-Focused Research Projects

aerial view of croplandsReconstruction of historical exposure regimes to environmental contaminants often requires historical landscape information defining land use and land cover types. EHASL has been involved in the development of satellite image classification procedures to classify historical landscapes for use in epidemiological investigations. Our focus has centered on defining current and historical agricultural landscapes for studies of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and childhood leukemia. This has included the development of image classification techniques, validation and accuracy assessment of existing satellite image products, and use of remote sensing for mapping. In addition, EHASL has explored effects of scale on image classification and factors affecting spatial patterns on the landscape.

Selected Historic and Current Projects:

Crop Classification Evaluation of automating crop classification methods (NIH/NCI)
Analysis of ecosystem stressors across scales using remotely sensed imagery (USEPA)
